Electronics recycling efforts garner environmental award

March 06, 2013

DAVENPORT, IA—Waste Commission of Scott County recently received recognition for its commitment to responsible recycling at the Electronic Demanufacturing Facility. A brief award ceremony was held Feb. 8.

Veolia Environmental Services presented its Environmental Stewardship Award to the Commission for its exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship through programs, policies and procedures that help to protect the environment by recycling lighting and electronic wastes.

The Commission was nominated for the award by Stefanie Fairless, Regional Account Manager for Veiolia. Fairless serves over 1,000 customers in a nine-state territory and may nominate two organizations for the award each year.

“Each year, Veolia selects valued customers from each region that have exhibited a dedication to environmental stewardship that goes above and beyond that of a simple recycling program,” said Fairless, adding that “the purpose of the award is to recognize the exceptional service you provide to the community.”

Waste Commission of Scott County (www.wastecom.com)  is an inter-governmental agency that operates the Scott Area Landfill, Scott Area Recycling Center, Center, Electronic Demanufacturing Facility, two Household Hazardous Material Facilities, a public education program and a Keep America Beautiful affiliate called iLivehere Quad Cities.
