Old paint finds new life—onstage

October 22, 2013
If you've dropped off paint through Waste Commission of Scott County's Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) program lately, you may be surprised to find out where it is today.

Your old paint may be in use in area schools.

So far area art students have used leftovers to create a backdrop for the third-grade school play at Wilson Elementary School in Davenport. Now they're creating a mural at Hopewell Elementary School in Bettendorf.

Pleasant Valley teacher Kala Koehler had the idea to use old paint from the HHM program earlier this year.

"I love the partnership we have created with the Commission," says Koehler. "I plan to show pictures on my school Website."
