Do you love the earth? Just in time for Valentine’s Day, there is a new way for Quad Citians to connect
with and support the earth through the Quad City Earth Coalition! On Feb. 14 the Coalition will launch
its new website, www.qcearth.org
, and celebrate changes that have been in the works for over two
Formerly the Quad Cities Earthweek Coalition, the group originally was developed in 2003 to align and
network environmental resources to educate the community about individual impact on the
environment and sustainable choices. While a great resource in the beginning, 10 years later the
coalition found itself presenting only the QC Earth Week Fair, an annual event held in Rock Island, and
wondering if the fair was where the focus should be. Looking to provide more meaningful experiences,
and after thoughtful examination of the organization’s purpose, member missions, visions and goals, the
Coalition is taking a new track to support a sustainable future for our Quad Cities community.
That new track – connecting individuals and organizations to news and information that will help build a
sustainable future for our community and better networking to make the most of member resources;
essentially being the one stop shop for environmental education, information, and opportunities that
promote stewardship of our natural resources and sustainability of our Quad Cities region.
Coalition members recognize the potential for new members and encourage those who support our
natural resources and sustainability of our community to join our network of organizations in supporting
the coalition’s mission to help citizens understand their personal responsibility in stewardship of our
natural resources, and fulfilling our vision of connecting our community to a sustainable future.
